EXCLUSIVE! Laura Whitmore gushes over her Love Island replacement Maya Jama

Laura Whitmore has gushed over her Love Island replacement Maya Jama.

The TV presenter shocked fans in August 2023 when she announced Maya Jama would be taking over her role on the hit dating show.

Speaking to Goss.ie at the preview of 2:22, a supernatural thriller by Danny Robins she is starring in, the mother-of-one shared her thoughts on the new host.

Laura gushed: “Maya is so fabulous and so kind and so gorgeous and so fit and if I had to couple up with anyone I’d couple up with her, don’t tell Ian.

The actress also spoke about former contestant turned presenter Maura Higgins and said: “I’ve so many friends who still work on that show, obviously Maura’s doing the social stuff, who I love to bits, she’s gas- it’s such a good show, it’s just so funny.”

Revealing whether she is watching this year’s series, Laura explained: “I’m on stage so I don’t see it, but I come home at midnight and he [Ian Stirling] is still doing the American show so I probably hear more about the American one at the moment as I hear him mentioning names.”

The former Love Island host who is married to the show’s voiceover actor Iain Stirling explained that although they both worked on the show at the same time, they did not have any crossover.

Laura revealed: “I never saw him on Love Island that was the problem, because I worked in the villa and he was in production, in the edit suite.”

“I was living a very different life, I didn’t see him for three months because I was flying back and forth.”

“He’s now on two Love Islands, he does the American Love Island and the UK one at the same time- all from Ireland, the original Love Ireland,” she quipped.

Speaking about what it is like to work with Iain on their podcast Murder She Wrote, Laura revealed: “I don’t see him much, he is here but we work crazy hours so our podcast is the one-time a week when I get to see him, it’s couples time, it’s date night.”

“I’m like ‘So how’re you, do you wanna talk about murder’ Ian’s background is Law and mine is Journalism so it’s kind of what we’d talk about anyway, the little weirdos that we are.”

“If we’re not talking about family and who took the bins out, but we don’t wanna talk about all that because that’s our private little conversations and we love it.”

“As I said it’s just our time and it doesn’t feel like work if it felt like work we wouldn’t do it.”
