Dick Clark Productions denies claims they compromised Mariah Carey’s NYE performance

The singer was left clueless on stage when no vocal backing track played

Dick Clark Productions has denied claims that they compromised Mariah Carey’s NYE performance.

The songstress performed on December 31st for the annual New Year’s Rockin’ Eve special – but the performance was a complete disaster.

“As the premier producer of live television events for nearly 50 years, we pride ourselves on our reputation and long-standing relationships with artists,” a statement released by the production company read.

Absurd: Dick Clark Productions said they would never purposely compromise any artist | E!

The production company said that they would never intentionally compromise any artist working with them.

“To suggest that dcp (Dick Clark Productions), as producer of music shows including the American Music Awards, Billboard Music Awards, New Year’s Rockin’ Eve and Academy of Country Music Awards, would ever intentionally compromise the success of any artist is defamatory, outrageous and frankly absurd,” the statement obtained by CNBC read.

“We want to be clear that we have the utmost respect for Ms. Carey as an artist and acknowledge her tremendous accomplishments in the industry.”

On the night, the mother-of-two attempted to perform her 90s hit Emotions when she realised there was no vocal track for her to lipsync over.

Standing around and encouraging the audience to sing instead, she said “We’re missing some of this vocal, but it is what it is.”

Mariah’s representative Nicole Perna blamed technical difficulties and said Dick Clark Productions hampered Carey’s performance.

“She was not winging this moment and took it very seriously,” she told Billboard.

When Nicole raised the issue that Mariah’s earpiece was not working, they were told that the issue would be resolved once the singer went on stage.

“However, that was not the case, and they were again told that her earpiece was not working,” she continued.

“Instead of endeavouring to fix the issue so that Mariah could perform, they went live.”
