Season two of Netflix’s Wednesday begins shooting in Ireland with star-studded list of new cast members

Season two of Netflix’s Wednesday started production in Ireland this week, with a star-studded list of new cast members.

After the show’s lead Jenna Ortega and director Tim Burton were recently spotted in Dublin, the streaming service has confirmed they’ve started filming new episodes.

Netflix also announced a number of new cast members for season two – including Christopher Lloyd, Joanna Lumley and Thandiwe Newton.

Returning cast members Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, Isaac Ordonez and Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo will also become series regulars on the hit Netflix show.

Steve Buscemi, Billie Piper, Evie Templeton, Owen Painter and Noah Taylor will also return.

Showrunners Al Gough and Miles Millar said: “We are thrilled that the entire Addams family will be enrolling in Nevermore Academy this season along with a dream cast of icons and new faces.”

It’s understood the cast will be filming on location in Ireland, and will also shoot scenes at Ardmore Studios in Co. Wicklow.

The decision to film in Ireland came after the logistical challenges that came with filming the first season in Romania.

The news comes after Jenna Ortega was spotted in Dublin late last month.

The 21-year-old has been photographed in the city twice, once when she posed for a photo with a young fan in an unknown pub, and again when she was spotted eating with co-star Georgie Farmer.

The critically acclaimed director of the series, Tim Burton, was also spotted in the area as he posed with the staff of the Guinea Pig restaurant in Dalkey.

The restaurant’s Instagram posted the photo and said: “Tonight we had the pleasure of looking after Tim Burton, a gentleman, who also took the time for a photo with us, Lovely to have you @guineapigrestaurant in Dalkey.”

The series has become the most successful English-language show on the streaming giant Netflix, and has garnered over 250 million views.

Christina Ricci, who played Wednesday in the two Addams Family films in the 1990s, is also on the show, but in a different role.

It was first revealed that Netflix would be filming the second season of Wednesday in Ireland last November.

Screen Ireland confirmed the news at the time, and wrote: “Delighted to welcome the second series of the hit show Wednesday to Ireland next year and to continue building Ireland’s relationship with Netflix and Amazon/MGM.”
