Amy Winehouse biopic finally gets release date

The Amy Winehouse biopic has finally announced its release date.

Marisa Abela has been selected to portray the late singer in the upcoming film Back to Black, based on the life of the late singer, directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson.

The Valerie singer passed away at the age of 27 in 2011.

The MailOnline has reported that the biopic is to be released in US theatres on May 10, 2024, while fans in the UK will be able to get a first-look at it four weeks earlier with an April 12, 2024 release date.

According to Focus Features: “Back to Black is a never-before-seen glimpse into Amy Winehouse’s early rise to fame and the release of her groundbreaking studio album, Back to Black.”

A previous press release said the film will dive into star’s success and quickly-found fame: “Amy’s extraordinary genius, creativity and honesty that infused everything she did.”

“A journey that took her from the craziness and colour of 90’s Camden High Street to global adoration – and back again, Back to Black crashes through the looking glass of celebrity to watch this journey from behind the mirror, to see what Amy saw, to feel what she felt.”

The album served as the 27-year-old’s final release before her tragic death.

Break-out actress Marisa stars alongside Jack O’Connell (Ferrari), Eddie Marsan (Fair Play), and Lesley Manville (Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris).

The film was made with the full support of Universal Music Group, Sony Music Publishing, and The Amy Winehouse Estate.
