Measuring popularity by a unique index score – generated by ratings on IMDb, Episode Ninja, and Rating Graph, with the lower the overall index score the higher the ranking – viewers were most captivated by the original Christmas Special.

From Gwen (Melanie Walters) being gifted a ‘bounty’, to Pete (Adrian Scarborough) punching Dave (Steffan Rhodri) in the face and Pam (Alison Steadman) and Smithy falling out with Gavin (Matthew Horne) after he drops the bombshell that he and Stacey (Joanna Page) will be moving to Barry, it’s no surprise the special episode was named the winner.

True fans will know why Nessa’s Wedding followed behind in second place, as the final episode of season three was a real tearjerker.

Many will recall Smithy taking care of Neil while Nessa (Ruth Jones) gets married to Dave, but at the very last minute, he finally decides to tell the truth.

Gavin and Stacey’s wedding came in third place, with the hilarious scene of Smithy breaking down into tears as he’s unable to deliver his best man’s speech.

The episode where Gavin and Stacey go house hunting followed in fourth – but the part that many remember is of course, Smithy and Nessa tucking into a delicious KFC…

Making the top five was A Special Christmas – where fans were left on the unbearable cliffhanger of Nessa finally proposing to Smithy.

The episode On The Run also held a special place with viewers as the two families search for Smithy after he discovers Nessa’s news in Capriccios.
