Rihanna missed out on the 2024 Met Gala on Monday night, despite being confirmed to attend.
Attendees of the star-studded fundraiser were invited to celebrate the Costume Institute’s exhibition “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” – with the dress code being “The Garden of Time.”
The singer skipped the biggest night in fashion because she was too sick to attend this year, according to Entertainment Tonight.
The outlet reported that Rihanna came down with the flu, and was forced to pull out of the event at the last minute.
Last year, she made a return to the carpet after a five-year-long hiatus, showing off her baby bump after announcing her second pregnancy at the Super Bowl.
Earlier this year, the mum-of-two spoke to British Vogue and confirmed she would be in attendance at the 2024 gala.
Rihanna provided a look into what her outfit for the night might’ve been, saying “I’m gonna wear Fenty something! Fenty Beauty, Fenty Skin, Fenty Savage.”
“I’ve done so much s**t in my life. I’ve had my nipples out, my panties out. But now, those are the things which, I guess as a mom and an evolved young lady — emphasis on young — there are things I feel like I would never do. Like, ‘Oh my God, I really did that? Nips out?’,” she continued.
The singer has attended the Met Gala an impressive 10 times over the years, first walking the carpet in 2007.
Rihanna and A$AP, whose real name is Rakim Athelaston Mayers, were first linked in 2020 with the couple finally confirming their romance in May 2021.
The pair welcomed their first son on May 13, 2022, and named him RZA Athelston Mayers – in homage to the Wu-Tang rapper RZA.
Their second child, Riot Rose, was born on August 1st, 2023.
