RTE won’t reveal the exact amount that Ray D’Arcy is earning for three years – after their big-money deal to lure him back.
Bosses have faced huge criticism as it emerged he may be paid €500,000 – more than Ryan Tubridy.
Already there have been calls for a pay cap on RTE presenters, ahead of the 50-year-old’s return next year.
Fine Gael TD Ray Butler said: “To see people getting €500,000 to go on RTE is ludicrous.
Sitting pretty: But Tubs is reported to be paid less than D’Arcy | ANDRES POVEDA
“It is very irritating when you have people objecting to paying €160 a year and you have people on the high alter on €500,000, €600,000, €700,000 a year.”
But RTE said Ray’s salary will only be revealed when they release figures for its top earners – which come every two years.
And the next set, to come next year, will only relate to 2013 – meaning a wait until at least 2017.
Sources at RTE have claimed he is being paid less than €500,000, but have refused to release his exact salary.
He won’t be on air until February 2 when he will take over Derek Mooney’s 3pm afternoon slot on Radio One.
