Miriam O'Callaghan reveals her kids are the driving force behind her career

Miriam O’Callaghan has spoken out about her eight children and why she couldn’t be a stay at-home mum.

The 55-year-old explained how after having her first child Alannah, she had to work extra hard while starting out on British TV.

“I had to work really, really hard to keep going” she said.

“A lot of women think it’s not financially or emotionally worth it to work because of your children.

“Sometimes mothers don’t like me saying this, but they’d much prefer you to stay at home,” she told VIP Magazine.

“I don’t think it is selfish to go to work. It’s possible to do both.

“But I work first and foremost because I need to financially, because I have eight kids. If I don’t work, I don’t earn,” she added.

Miriam who has had a successful career in TV has worked for British TV station ITV as well as Irish national broadcaster RTE.

The prime time presenter is currently hosting her Saturday night with Miriam, which broadcasts until the 8th of August.
