Well-known Irish celebrity’s application to dismiss case of defilement of a child rejected

A well-known Irish celebrity who has been accused of the defilement of a child has had an application to dismiss the case against him refused.

The entertainer, who can not be publicly named for legal reasons, was arrested by officers from a Divisional Protective Services Bureau in February and brought before the Dublin District Court.

The man, who is in his 40s, was then charged with three counts of engaging in a sexual act with a child under the age of 17.

The offences are alleged to have taken place between 12 and 13 years ago in Dublin.

In his judgement, Judge John Martin said for a case to be dismissed it would require insufficient evidence, and he ruled against the man.

He was remanded on continuing bail until the start of his trial, which is due to take place in Dublin’s Circuit Criminal Court on October 9.

The bail was reliant on a number of conditions, including that the man can not to go near the alleged victim in person or on social media.
