Everything we know about Anne Hathaway’s steamy new rom-com The Idea Of You

Anne Hathaway’s steamy new rom-com The Idea Of You premiered on Prime Video today, May 2nd.

The film has already received a positive response from early reviewers, who have praised the chemistry between Anne, 41, and her hunky co-star Nicholas Galitzine, 29.

The Idea Of You is based on the novel of the same name by Robinne Lee, which gained a huge cult following on BookTok.

The film follows Anne Hathaway’s art dealer character Solène, a 40-year-old single mom who begins an unexpected romance with 24-year-old Hayes Campbell, played by Nicholas Galitzine.

Hayes just so happens to be the lead singer of August Moon, the hottest boy band on the planet.

When Solène must step in to chaperone her teenage daughter’s trip to the Coachella Music Festival after her ex bails at the last minute, she has a chance encounter with Hayes and there is an instant, undeniable spark.

As they begin a whirlwind romance, it isn’t long before Hayes’ superstar status poses unavoidable challenges to their relationship, and Solène soon discovers that life in the glare of his spotlight might be more than she bargained for.

So far, The Idea Of You has received an 88% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, as reviewers have praised the film for offering “poignant commentary in a fresh take on the rom-com genre”.

While the book that inspired the movie was published back in 2017, fans have been drawing parallels between the film’s storyline and the age gap relationship of Harry Styles and Olivia Wilde.

The former One Direction star, 30, started dating his Don’t Worry Darling co-star and director Olivia Wilde, 40, after filming the movie in 2020.

However, the couple split at the end of 2022 after two years together.

Despite the similarities, the film’s star Anne has denied her love interest is based on Harry Styles.

“You guys keep saying it. The author keeps saying it’s not!” the actress insisted. “During the audition process, which I can speak to as I’m a producer on the film, we saw people from all backgrounds.”

“The idea was we weren’t looking for someone British. We were looking for Hayes Campbell.

“And if he happened to be British, that would be what Hayes Campbell would be in the film. And Nick was Hayes, so Hayes became British.”
