Simon Harris makes surprise appearance on US talk show after becoming Ireland’s youngest Taoiseach

Simon Harris made a surprise appearance on a US talk show on Wednesday, after becoming Ireland’s newest Taoiseach.

The 37-year-old became Ireland’s youngest ever leader on Tuesday when he was elected the fifteenth Taoiseach, following the surprise resignation of Leo Varadkar.

On the latest episode of Late Night with Seth Meyers, the host was giving his take on the latest in politics when he put a humorous spin on Simon becoming the youngest Taoiseach in state history.

Speaking about his appointment, Seth said: “The Irish parliament today confirmed the country’s youngest ever new prime minister…”

“So whoever wins here in November, they will be asking you for help with the WIFI,” he added, alongside a photo of US presidential hopefuls Joe Biden and Donald Trump.

The comedian then put on an Irish accent and joked: “Have you tried unplugging the router? It’s often the router!”

The Wicklow native was elected Taoiseach by 88 votes to 69 in the Dáil on Tuesday.

Following his appointment, Harris promised to be a “Taoiseach for all”.
