New RTÉ Director-general Kevin Bakhurst reveals his salary

New RTÉ Director-general Kevin Bakhurst has revealed his salary – amid the controversial payment controversy.

Speaking from the broadcaster’s HQ in Donnybrook, Bakhurst announced that he is on €250k per annum and that he will also have a car allowance.

The new RTÉ boss, who previously worked as the Group Director of Ofcom, said that his new salary was “less” than what he earned in that role.

While joined by press associations, including Goss.ie, Kevin added that the high levels of power that Ryan Tubridy’s agent Noel Kelly had at the station was “not healthy”.

Speaking about Ryan’s current position, the Direction-General stated that he is still being paid while off air from his Radio 1 show.

“I genuinely don’t know the detail of where that is,” he explained when pushed on where Ryan’s contract currently lies.

The broadcaster boss also discussed the rumours of Ryan Tubridy moving to the UK to work in rival stations.

“I’ve heard this before from Ryan, I wish him well. If there are opportunities there I wish him well. It’s a tough market over there. It’s not going to be straightforward forward but good luck to him if that what’s he wants to do.”

When asked if Ryan could land a gig over there, he replied “I don’t know”.
