‘Good luck to him’ RTÉ’s new Director-General Kevin Bakhurst on Ryan Tubridy’s possible move to the UK

The new RTÉ boss has wished Ryan Tubridy “good luck”, amid rumours he is set to carve out a new career in the UK.

The former Late Late Show presenter has been off air from Radio 1 since it was revealed that he had received “secret” payments from the broadcaster, which were never revealed to the public.

Speaking about Ryan’s possible move to the UK to work on a new show, the Direction-general Kevin Bakhurst stated that he is still being paid while off air from his Radio 1 show.

“I’ve heard this before from Ryan, I wish him well. If there are opportunities there I wish him well.

“It’s a tough market over there. It’s not going to be straightforward forward but good luck to him if that what’s he wants to do,” he told Goss.ie.

When asked if Ryan could land a gig over there, he replied “I don’t know”.

Meanwhile, the broadcaster boss explained that he currently was unsure where Ryan Tubridy’s contract stands with the station.

“I genuinely don’t know the detail of where that is,” he explained when pushed on where Ryan’s contract currently lies.

However, he did confirm that Tubridy is still being paid for his radio show.
