Ed Sheeran's Whelan's gig so popular even a Premiership player can't get tickets

Ed Sheeran’s upcoming gig in Whelan’s is so popular – even a Premiership player can’t get tickets.

Bosses at Whelan’s revealed they had contact from one top footballer’s agent desperate to get tickets for his show in Dubin tomorrow, and a senior politician.

The VH1 show is being beamed live to the US, and there is only room for 250 people at each of the two performances.

A Whelan’s spokesman said: “We had a call from an agency representing a Premiership player.

“We told them what we’ve told everyone else, all tickets were released through the Applause Store website. We don’t have any tickets to sell.”

Ed decided to play the gig in Whelan’s as a nod to a show of Damien Rice’s at the same venue which changed his life a decade ago.

The Dublin bar will now be one of the most famous in the world, but has warned fans without tickets to stay away from the venue.

Gardai will close off Camden Row, the lane beside Whelan’s from 4pm on Saturday, and a security team of more than 30 will man the doors.
