Kim Kardashian’s shapewear line on blast for ‘cultural appropriation’

Kim Kardashian’s latest venture has come under fire, after some found the name of her shapewear line to be “culturally offensive.”

Kim announced the launch of her new slimming underwear, named Kimono.

The name of the shapewear brand is a play on Kim’s moniker.

However, some found the name to be distasteful due to the traditional Japanese garment which bears the same name.

Social media users have turned out in force on Kim’s announcement tweet to lambaste the brand’s name.

“Nice underwear, but as a Japanese woman who loves to wear our traditional dress, kimono, I find the naming of your products baffling (since it has no resemblance to kimono) if not outright culturally offensive, especially if it’s merely a word play on your name,” one tweeted.

“Kimono is a Japanese word. You can’t trademark it. Just stop,” said another.

The line includes an innovative shapewear solution for people who want to wear shapewear while wearing skirts and dresses with high slits.

However, this particular design has also drawn criticism from the public, with some arguing that if the shapewear includes stomach smoothing or bum lifting properties, wearers would have to buy two pairs for slits on separate legs.
