Liam Neeson's son's 1916 movie debut delayed

Irish film The Rising, which was to be the big screen debut of Liam Neeson’s son Micheal, will miss its target date by at least a year.

The big-budget film, which was to coincide with the centenary of the Easter Rising, will now hit the big screen next year at the earliest – with 2018 as a more likely release date.

According to the Belfast Telegraph, filming hasn’t even started on the movie with writer and producer Kevin McCann looking for more funding for the Irish project in the US.

Like father, like son: Liam previously starred as Michael Collins in Neil Jordan’s classic film of the same name

“It was unfortunate that we didn’t get it ready for the anniversary, but the nature of film financing is changing by the day – it’s been a challenge,” Kevin told the paper.

The film project sparked major publicity when it cast Micheal as Irish patriot Michael Collins – 20 years after his father Liam’s Golden Globe-nominated performance in the Neil Jordan flick.

The historic film had previously said on its website that it would be “released to a global cinema audience in 2016, the centenary year of the Easter Rising”.
