RTE star Kathryn Thomas expects a few tears to be shed this Christmas – as she spends her first holidays without her nana.
The Voice of Ireland presenter admitted that Xmas will be “difficult” but will get though the pain with the help of her family.
She said: “It will be the first year without my nana which will be difficult but no doubt we will sing a few songs in her memory and spend hours Skyping family around the world.”

And Kathryn plans to host Christmas dinner in her house for the second year running – with her sister and brother jetting home tomorrow.
She added: “I will be hosting Christmas dinner in my house for the second year in a row – which I love to do. I would love to take the credit for the cooking but it will be a very much a joint effort.
“My mum does the ham, which is always the star dish, I attempt the turkey, my sister does the sides, dad does the cheese board and my two brothers just turn up and eat constantly – for days.”
But Kathryn, 35, wrote in her Star column that she doesn’t plan to relax too much – as she hosts RTE’s New Year’s countdown show.
New Year: Kathryn is counting down 2015 on RTE
“Ours is a typical family Christmas – everyone in front of the box, stuffed by 8pm and arguing over what Christmas movie we should watch.
“This year there will be no slobbing around between Christmas and New Year unfortunately as I am hosting New Year’s Eve Live in College Green for RTE.
“We have lined up some great guests. I can’t wait. I think it is going to be an amazing show, even with the forecasted polar vortex – I wonder is there such a thing as thermal sequins?”
