Shocking ‘rape scene’ CUT from Poldark – to keep Aidan Turner’s character admired

Aidan Turner has revealed a rape scene was dropped from Poldark – to keep the character loved by fans.

The Dublin actor admitted that Ross Poldark was meant to “rape” his former love Elizabeth – but instead BBC replaced the scene with a consensual act.

“It seems consensual, and it just seems right,” he said.

“He goes to talk. He doesn’t go to commit a crime.

Shocking: Poldark was meant to “rape” Elizabeth

“They talk and it seems like there is still this spark between them, this unfinished business emotionally.

“Certainly, that’s how Ross feels. He doesn’t force himself upon her,” he told The Sun.

The shocking scene does take place in the third book which the series is based on.

Elizabeth tells Poldark that he treats her “like a sl*t” and Poldark tells her she needs to be treated that way before forcing himself upon her.

A TV source revealed that series producers changed the plot so Aidan’s character would still be adored by fans.

“Ross is a hero and times have changed since the 1950s and 1970s.

“The new series reflects that in a way that keeps Ross Poldark as the romantic hero that fans want,” the insider said.
