Ryan Tubridy opens up about how ‘everything changed’ after the death of his father

Ryan Tubridy has opened up about the death of his father, and how it affected him.

The presenter spoke candidly about his late father, who passed in 2013, on the first episode of his new podcast, The Bookshelf with Ryan Tubridy.

He admitted that all of a sudden “everything changed” when he lost his dad, expressing that he misses him every day.

Ryan spoke to David Walliams on the first episode, and the author stated how strange it is for life to continue after losing someone close to you.

The ex-RTÉ star replied: “I’m thinking of looking out of the back of the funeral car of my own dad and thinking that very same thing, going ‘Don’t you know this great guy is gone? How can you be going in to buy bread? That’s so mundane.'”

“It’s most unusual, you forget your universe is just that.”

He continued: “And it’s like someone flicked the globe and everything’s changed and actually your landscape in your daily life is littered with landmines, with emotional tripwires and you suddenly find [you’re like] ‘hold it together, hold it together’ because no one else cares and certainly doesn’t understand why you’re suddenly having a moment because you saw a packet of Silk Cut Purple because it reminds you of your father.”

“It’s bizarre. But that informs you as a person, a writer, a broadcaster, whatever it might be, people listening in, and should help you with empathy and nourish who you are as a human being.”

Ryan announced the launch of his new podcast last week.

Sharing the news with fans, he reflected on the “exceptionally difficult time” he endured last year, referring to the infamous RTÉ payments scandal.

He said: “This has been a passion project of mine for a couple of years now but I could never quite find enough time to put it all together”

The brand new podcast launched today April 16th, and is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, and all major audio platforms.
