Ryan Tubridy addresses ‘exceptionally difficult’ payments scandal as he shares huge new career move

Ryan Tubridy has announced the launch of his very own podcast, The Bookshelf with Ryan Tubridy.

Sharing the news with fans on Thursday, the broadcaster reflected on the “exceptionally difficult time” he endured last year, referring to the infamous RTÉ payments scandal.

The brand new podcast will launch on April 16th, and will be available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, and all major audio platforms.

Ryan said: “This has been a passion project of mine for a couple of years now but I could never quite find enough time to put it all together.

“Harold McMillan used to talk about ‘events, dear boy, events’. Those times in life when the least expected things happen. Such events happened to me last summer.

“Despite it being an exceptionally difficult time, it made me reassess and explore new opportunities to realise some dreams I’ve long held in my heart.

“One was to work on the radio in the UK which I am currently doing and loving. The other was to bring The Bookshelf with Ryan Tubridy to fruition which is where we are today,” he continued.

“I always say, you’ll never be lonely or bored with a book in your hand. They bring company, enlightenment and enrichment whether you’re reading a comic, a cereal box or a crime novel.

“The world of reading is rarely dull and lends itself to the most intriguing conversations, of which I’ve had many putting season one together. The first of these conversations drops on Tuesday. I can’t wait to share it with you.”

Whether you are enthralled by a thriller, fall in love with a romance novel, or even read the back of the cereal box, the life-long book lover will offer a weekly appointment to everyone who enjoys a good story with his brand-new podcast series.

The enduring magic of books can stay with us for a long time after we finish the final chapter.

And now, in weekly episodes, international guests from the worlds of music, television, literature and sport who all share a love for reading will join Ryan to turn the pages of their life story through the prism of three books: their favourite childhood book, the book that made them cry, and the book that changed their life.

Sponsored by Eason, Ryan will also offer up his pick for ‘Ryan Recommends’, a segment where he shares a book he has enjoyed in recent weeks and months.
