Maura Derrane hits out at fake ads on social media which involve ‘serious false allegations’ about the presenter

Maura Derrane has hit out at fake ads on social media that have been making “serious false allegations” about the presenter.

The fake ads have been circulated on Facebook, one example shows what appears to be a screenshot of a national publication featuring an image of two Gardaí restraining a woman whose face is blurred.

The false headline reads: “The charges against Maura Derrane have been confirmed.”

The headline was never actually published by the outlet in question.

Maura has since told The Irish Mirror: “People have been getting in touch with me, although I have a Facebook account, I use Instagram and I am rarely on Facebook but I have a lot of my followers on Instagram get in touch and friends of mine screenshotting these posts, which are of course totally fake and not true.”

“But they are serious allegations and now I’m going to contact Meta about this to take these down.”

She continued: “The worst part of this is that I’m afraid people will believe this and my name and my photograph is attached to investments, which are complete scams.”

“I’ve had people getting in touch with me asking me if these are good investments and would I recommend them.”

“This is my followers who are contacting me and they are people who watch the show, who know me and trust me.”

She added: “I don’t want anybody else to lose money or make any investments because of my name being attached to something.”

The RTÉ Today presenter plans to contact the social media giant.
