Brian Gleeson admits carrying the famous family name can be a curse

Brian Gleeson has admitted that carrying the Gleeson family name can sometimes be a “curse”.

The Malahide native comes from a showbiz family, with dad Brendan and brother Domhnall all actors and has found sometimes he wont be seen for acting projcts based on his last name.

“I have found it a blessing and a curse. You get seen for certain things but not seen for other things, you know, ‘Oh no, we don’t want to be giving this to the sons.’ So I suppose in total it evens out,” he said.

The Stonemouth star has performed with his family before with the trio starring in The Walworth Farce earlier this year.

Brian insisted that despite all their success, there’s no sibling rivalry between him and his brother.

“Everything he has done, he’s done brilliantly. Maybe if he was dropping his game [then I might say something], but he never has. I’m always excited to see him do stuff,” he said.

Brian added that the pair regularly help each other out with their acting gigs.

“We are different actors so it is never really a problem. We always help each other with auditions,” he told The Herald Scotland.

“There are five years between us so there is a different look to us.”
