The Royal Family reveal the official invitation to King Charles’ coronation

The Royal Family have revealed the official invitation to King Charles III’s coronation.

The invitation confirms that the monarch’s wife Camilla Parker Bowles will be known as the Queen – dropping ‘Consort’ from her official title.

A royal source said: “Queen Camilla is the appropriate title to set against King Charles on the invitation.”

“The Coronation is an appropriate time to start using Queen Camilla in an official capacity,” the source continued.

The official invitations to the historic event are printed on firm card, and will reportedly be distributed to more than 2,000 guests over the course of the next two weeks.

They read: “The Coronation of Their Majesties King Charles III & Queen Camilla.”

“By Command of the King, the Earl of Marshal is directed to invite __ to be present at the Abbey Church of Westminster on the 6th day of May 2023.”

A statement regarding the design of the invitations reads: “The chosen design was created by Andrew Jamieson, a heraldic artist and manuscript illuminator whose work is inspired by Arthurian legend.”

“The design has been hand-painted in watercolour and gouache, and each will be printed on recycled card, with gold foil detailing.”

“Central to the design is the motif of the Green Man, an ancient figure from British folklore, symbolic of spring and rebirth, to celebrate the new reign.”

“The shape of the Green Man, crowned in natural foliage, is formed of leaves of oak, ivy and hawthorn, and the emblematic flowers of the United Kingdom.”

“The British wildflower meadow bordering the invitation features lily of the valley, cornflowers, wild strawberries, dog roses, bluebells, and a sprig of rosemary for remembrance, together with wildlife including a bee, a butterfly, a ladybird, a wren and a robin.”

“The invitation also bears the King’s coats of arms, with the Lion and the Unicorn appearing amongst the flowers.”

“The Queen Consort’s coat arms, which following Her Majesty’s installation as a Royal Lady of the Order of the Garter, is now enclosed by the Garter.”

“A boar – taken from the arms of Her Majesty’s father, Major Bruce Shand – is also included in the design.”

The new monarch’s coronation weekend will begin with the official coronation of His Majesty the King and Her Majesty Queen Camilla at Westminster Abbey on Saturday, May 6.

It is understood that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have not yet decided whether or not they will attend the historic event.

However, according to a recent report by The Telegraph, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex received an email invitation to attend the occasion.

A separate report claimed that the Royal Family have drafted two plans for the historic occasion, in the event that the couple don’t attend.
