Prince Harry breaks his silence following his father King Charles’ cancer diagnosis

Prince Harry has broken his silence following his father King Charles’ cancer diagnosis.

The Duke of Sussex rushed back to the UK last week from Los Angeles after his father personally called him to share the news.

The father-of-two revealed he was “grateful” that he could visit his father and added: “I love my family.”

The Duke discussed his father’s health as he spoke publicly for the first time since the King postponed all public-facing duties because of his diagnosis.

In an interview with ABC’s Good Morning America, Prince Harry spoke about his flying visit to London.

Presenter Will Reeve asked the Prince how the visit was for him “emotionally” to which he responded: “Um, look, I love my family. The fact that I was able to get on a plane and go and see him and spend any time with him, I’m grateful for that.”

Will who is the son of the late Superman actor Christopher Reeve who was paralysed in 1995, shared his own experience with a family member getting ill.

Will said: “I’ve also found in my own life that sort of an illness in the family can have a galvanising or a sort of reunifying effect for a family. Is that possible in this case?”

Prince Harry replied: “Absolutely. Yeah, I’m sure. Throughout all these families I see it on a day-to-day basis, again, the strength of the family unit coming together. “

He continued: “I think any illness, any sickness brings families together.”

The father-of-two barely touched down in London last week before leaving to return to California after meeting with his poorly father for just 30 minutes.

According to royal expert Robert Jobson, the King only met with Harry for half an hour to keep his stress levels down.

Robert told The Sun: “You don’t want his blood pressure going up. The King’s not very well, whatever type of cancer it is, he’s undergoing treatment.”

“The best thing for him is calm. After the initial kiss and hug, love you dad, hope you get better soon, what issues are going to get raised? Things that will get your blood pressure rising.”

In his memoir Spare, Harry shared his feelings on his father’s new wife: “I have complex feelings about gaining a step-parent who I thought had recently sacrificed me on her personal PR altar.”

Harry also confessed that he and his older brother Prince William had “begged” their father not to marry Camilla out of fear she would become their “wicked stepmother.”
