Ray D'Arcy considering getting live on air vasectomy in Irish radio first

Ray D’Arcy is considering getting a live vasectomy on his radio show – after being convinced he should get the snip.

The Today FM presenter was contacted by a female listener looking for advice for her husband who she wants to undergo the procedure.

After reading out texts and emails from listeners who said it was extremely easy and painless, the 49-year-old said: “I think I might go for it after all of that.”

And Ray – who has two children, Kate, eight and two-year-old Tom – was then urged by co-presenters Mairead Farrell and Will Hanafin to do it live on air.

Calling it “the big snip”, he was happy to contemplate the Irish radio first, but asked: “Are we really that desperate for listeners? Would you tune in for that? I don’t know if they would.”

He was then told by Mairead that his wife – show producer Jenny Kelly – could even do commentary.

“They would [listen in], Ray,” she said. “Jenny could do all the commentary during it, and we’d hear Will crashing to the floor. It would be great.”

But Ray later in the show admitted he was reconsidering his willingness to share the moment with his listeners.

“The live snip, then we’d have to go down to wherever it was and it would be terrible hassle,” he said. “All the microphones would have to be sterilised and I’d have the fear of infection and all that.

“I’m sure there is some Medical Council ruling that you can’t do live radio broadcasts from operating theatres – I’m imagining there is.”

However Mairead insisted they’ve “had much more hassle in the past” – pointing out the operations have been filmed before.
