Eoghan McDermott: 'It's a weird situation to fill in for Louise McSharry as she fights cancer'

Eoghan McDermott reveals he will be in the hot seat on The Louise McSharry show for much longer than he thought – until next May.

The Voice of Ireland star has been filling in for the DJ while she undergoes chemotherapy to fight cancer and will now find himself front and centre for longer than planned.

But Eoghan told Goss.ie it has become a “weird situation” to be in, however he is loving the gig.

He said: “It’s kind of a weird situation obviously. I think originally she had hoped to be back in January and now she’s saying maybe April/May.”

He continued: “Just doing what she does, playing a lot of good music which is good because not a lot of shows can play playlist stuff, that’s a real pleasure, I love it, it’s great.”

The TV star also admitted things are going from strength to strength on the set of The Voice, with new judges Una Foden and Rachel Stevens getting along famously.

“Everyone is settled in nice. It would be deadly to say [Una and Rachel] hate each other, but they are so nice. There’s no juicy gossip there, everyone’s lovely and having tea and biscuits,” he said.

Admiration: Eoghan thinks Bressie is ‘amazing’ | BRIAN MCEVOY

The 31-year-old also revealed his admiration for fellow Voice star Bressie following his recent speech on mental health.

“[Bressie] is amazing. That speech he gave, I only got around to watching it yesterday. It’s mind boggling,” he told Goss.ie

“He’s so well placed to do it because he’s kind of mature enough to take all the responsibility it brings. He’s got the shoulders to carry it.”
