This is how many viewers tuned in to Ireland’s Women’s World Cup opening match

Ireland played the inaugural 2023 Women’s World Cup match against host nation Australia on Thursday, July 20.

The Girls in Green have two upcoming games against Canada, on Wednesday, July 26 at 1pm, and against Nigeria on Monday, July 31 at 11am.

The team ultimately lost 1-0 against Australia; but, the Irish rallied around them nonetheless.

According to RTÉ, live coverage of the opening match saw 511,000 TV viewers watch it on RTÉ2 and 360,000 live streams on RTÉ Player.

The first of the teams three group games is the second highest streamed live sporting match on the RTÉ Player, with the FIFA Men’s World Cup final in November 2022 having generated 490,000 streams.

On Thursday, the Republic of Ireland team kicked off the FIFA Women’s World Cup against Australia in sold-out Accor Stadium in Sydney.
