U2 bass player Adam Clayton and wife Mariana announce shock divorce after 10 years of marriage

U2 bass player Adam Clayton and Brazilian wife Mariana Teixeira de Carvalho have announced their shock divorce after 10 years of marriage.

The former couple tied the knot in a quiet registry office wedding in September 2013 after four years of dating.

Four years later, the pair welcomed daughter Alba into the world in July 2017.

A spokesperson for the couple yesterday confirmed the heart-breaking news in an interview with the Sunday World.

In their statement, the source said that the world-renowned bass guitarist and lawyer have parted ways on good terms and are “amicably divorced”.

The source also told the outlet that they will both continue to be involved in their 6-year-old daughter’s life.

The spokesperson told the Sunday World: “After more than 10 years of marriage, musician Adam Clayton and lawyer Mariana Teixeira de Carvalho have amicably divorced.”

“Both will continue to be fully involved in the care of their daughter and they request that the family’s privacy be respected.”

In July 2017 the couple placed a sweet ad in The Irish Times announcing the birth of their daughter.

The piece read: “Adam and Mariana Clayton are delighted to announce the birth of their beautiful baby girl Alba.”

The rockstar is also father to a son, who was born in 2010, from a previous relationship.

Adam was also once engaged to supermodel Naomi Campbell for a brief period in 1994.

The couple appeared on The Late Late Show together where they announced their engagement.

However, their relationship ended that same year.

In 2006, Adam got engaged again, this time to Suzie Smith, the former assistant of Paul McGuinness, the band’s manager.

However, Suzie and Adam split up a year later in February 2007.

The U2 star went public with his most recent relationship in 2017 after receiving the Stevie Ray Vaughan Award for his support of the MusiCares MAP Fund.

The fund gives musicians access to recovery treatment and in his speech he opened up about how his relationship with Mariana began.

Adam said: “I was in Brazil and I met a lawyer who was smart and beautiful. We started dating. I got married in sobriety to Mariana. I didn’t think that would happen.”

“She’s never seen me drinking, but she does know me crazy. Thank you, Mariana, for the wonderful life we have together and for making every day more meaningful.”
