Bono: 'I'm a spoilt-rotten, overpaid, over-nourished rock star'

U2 star Bono has declared that his is a spoilt rock star – who has lost touch with most musicians.

The Dubliner – who has become a multi-millionaire from the band’s tour and album sales – made the admission while talking about the digital age of music.

He said: “I’m a spoilt-rotten, overpaid, over-nourished rock star so I’m not a good spokesperson for musicians today.”

Following the Web Summit, the With Or Without You sensation made sure to live up to his spoilt nature by hosting a plush party.

Celebrities including supermodel Lily Cole joined himself and wife Ali Hewson and the plush Clarence Hotel he owns.

Meanwhile, Bono defended U2’s controversial deal with iTunes, where the band’s new album appeared in the music libraries of 100 million people – whether they wanted it or not.

“We got a lot of people who weren’t interested in U2 to be mad at U2. I’d call that an improvement in the relationship,” he said.

“And we were paid. No one values music more than U2. The greatest way to serve your songs is to get them heard. We were delighted to get the chance to introduce ourselves to people who may not listen to rock.”
