Six, The Carter Twins and more: Goss.ie's Top 11 Irish Guilty Pleasures

We love to slag off a lot of Irish music, but let’s be honest lads, we secretly love these Irish acts.

From Six to The Carter twins, there was once a time when we loved putting these records on (yes back in the good ole CD days).

Take a look at our faves:

1. Six – There’s A Whole Lotta Lovin’ Going On

The ultimate guilty pleasure is undoubtedly Six.

Everyone thought these guys were the best thing since sliced bread when they burst onto the scene in 2002 – and then quickly vanished.

Try and watch the video without cringing, we dare you.

2. Westlife – Flying Without Wings

To be fair, any of Westlife’s songs could be considered a guilty pleasure, but Flying Without Wings is definitely our favourite.

The outfits, the deep stares and the bluest eyes we’ve ever seen.

10/10 lads.

3. The Carter Twins – Twelfth Of Never

The Carter Twins were one of Louis Walsh’s earlier musical offerings.

Not a bad song for the 90s, but sadly the lads didn’t manage to climb the slippery slope of music industry success.

At least they’ll always have this music video – so much Blue Steel.

4. Sinead Quinn – Break Down

If you had a life in the early 2000s, then you wont know that Sinead Quinn came second in the first series of Fame Academy in 2002 (it was cancelled the year after).

This song ended up being her only major music offering, reaching number 2 on the UK Singles Chart.

On a side note, the music video makes absolutely no sense.

She walks into an abandoned house, spins around a lot, plays the guitar and then leaves again. Alrighty, then.

5. Samantha Mumba – Always Come Back To Your Love

Along with the Cliffs of Moher and the Giant’s Causeway, Samantha Mumba is one of Ireland’s great treasures.

She was the bees knees in the early 2000s and we can’t help but to still love her music to this day.

6. B*witched – C’est La Vie

Go to any 90s club night in Ireland and you’ll probably hear this one played at least once.

B*witched were one of the biggest girl groups of the 90s and brought double denim to the masses.

Come on now, say it with us: “I fight like me da as well…’

7. Boyzone – Picture of You

What is happening in this music video?  The whole thing looks like a bad Instagram filter.

Still, the song is undeniably catchy and one of Boyzone’s best.

Let’s have a moment of silence for Ronan’s old haircut.

8. Jedward – Lipstick

Jedward’s first Eurovision entry placed in a very respectable 8th place, disrupting Ireland’s appalling run in the contest in recent years.

The song is undeniably catchy and climbed up the charts in several countries across Europe after the contest.

9. Tabby – Livin’ On A Prayer

Does anyone remember Tabby?

The Sligo man appeared on the very first series of The X Factor way back in 2004 (watch the video above to remember just how different it was).

Tabby was doing the Irish proud years before Niall Horan would make his debut on the show.

10. The Conway Sisters – One Voice

Forget The Corrs, it’s all about The Conway Sisters.

The Sligo trio appeared on the second series of the show in 2005 and were at the centre of a media firestorm when they landed in the bottom two and Louis Walsh saved them over fan favourite Maria Lawson.

The girls were eliminated two weeks later.

They’ve since gone their separate ways but to us, they’ll always be the sisters from Sligo singing Barry Manilow.

11. Ronan Keating – Life Is A Rollercoaster

One of Ronan’s biggest solo hits, and definitely one of our favourite guilty pleasures.

The song is cheesy and the video just tops it all off. He starts flying at the end.

Love it!
