Ruth Negga is set to pick up the prestigious Rising Star Award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival.
The actress, who was born in Ethiopia and raised by her Irish mother in Limerick, will be honoured at the ceremony in January, for her role in the upcoming film, Loving.
The Rising Star nod comes as the 34-year-old has been tipped for an Oscar nomination for the same role, ever since the film premiered at Cannes in May.
The film is based on the true story of Mildred Jeter and Richard Loving, an interracial couple who were arrested in 1958 for marrying.
Speaking about her Rising Star honour, festival chairman Harold Matzner said, “Ruth Negga’s performance as Mildred Loving is one of the year’s most luminous and striking portrayals….This will certainly be just one of many breath-taking performances in a long career.”
