Not worried: Domhnall is happy with the film’s success

“I don’t really think a lot about the awards thing,” he said.

“I’m proud of the film, whether or not it gets nominated for anything doesn’t change how I feel about the film and that’s all I care about.

“Of course if it helps it get seen then that’s great. But I’ve been lucky in that Unbroken has already been seen by a lot of people which is fantastic,” he added.

However Domhnall’s famous father Brendan is headed to the Academy Awards after his animated film Song of The Sea bagged a nomination.

“With Song of The Sea it helps it get seen so that’s great,” Domhnall said.

Domhnall, 31, has had a fantastic year career wise. Not only landing a role in the highly-anticipated new Star Wars film but working with Angelia Jolie.

“It’s been great,” Domhnall told Goss.ie. “I’ve got to work with so many people who are my heros and I’ve got to work on some big projects but also some small projects in terms of budget.

“But the most important thing is the people I got to work with and the scripts I’ve got have been brilliant. I’ve really been spoilt and I’ve been enjoying it,” he said.

“I couldn’t stop reading it and I would have been heart broken if I hadn’t got it,” he said.

“If was thinking ‘If I don’t get this I’m going to be down for a while, it would be tough walking by and seeing a poster and not being in it,” he explained.

Meanwhile Domhnall is currently starring alongside brother Brian and dad Brendan in The Walworth Farce and said the experience has been incredible so far.

“We’ve been getting a standing ovation every night which is great,” he said.

“Acting with my brother and my father is a wonderful job and I’m not sure if we’ll ever get to do it again so I’m enjoying every single minute of it.”
