Britney Spears’ lawyer files request to resign from her conservatorship case

Britney Spears’ lawyer has filed a request to resign from her conservatorship case.

Samuel D. Ingham III was appointed as the singer’s attorney by the court when her conservatorship was established back in 2008.

According to a court document obtained by E! News, Samuel requested to resign from the role in paperwork filed on Tuesday, June 6.

The document reads: “Samuel D. Ingham III hereby resigns as court-appointed counsel for Britney Jean Spears, conservatee, effective upon the appointment of new court-appointed counsel.”

The news comes just hours after Britney’s longtime manager Larry Rudolph resigned from his role, after 25 years of representing the pop star.

According to Deadline, his resignation letter was sent to Britney’s co-conservators Jamie Spears and Jodi Montgomery on Monday.

It read: “It has been over 2 1/2 years since Britney and I last communicated, at which time she informed me she wanted to take an indefinite work hiatus.”

“Earlier today, I became aware that Britney had been voicing her intention to officially retire.”

“As you know, I have never been a part of the conservatorship nor its operations, so I am not privy to many of these details. I was originally hired at Britney’s request to help manage and assist her with her career.”

“And as her manager, I believe it is in Britney’s best interest for me to resign from her team as my professional services are no longer needed. Please accept this letter as my formal resignation.”

“I will always be incredibly proud of what we accomplished over our 25 years together. I wish Britney all the health and happiness in the world, and I’ll be there for her if she ever needs me again, just as I always have been.”

Larry’s resignation came just days after Bessemer Trust officially resigned as co-conservator of Britney’s estate.

The wealth management firm was appointed co-conservator of Britney’s estate in November last year – alongside her father Jamie.

Britney was placed under a conservatorship after she suffered an alleged breakdown back in 2008.

A conservatorship is granted to those who are incapable of making decisions, such as people with mental disabilities.

The arrangement put her estate, financial assets, and some personal assets under the control of her father Jamie, and lawyer Andrew Wallet – who has since resigned from the role.

The 39-year-old’s conservatorship has been under review since 2019 after she accused her father of forcing her to enter a mental health facility.

During a landmark court hearing on June 23, Britney called for an end to her 13-year conservatorship, which she branded “abusive”.

Last week, Judge Brenda Penny denied Britney’s request to remove her father from her conservatorship.
