Dermot O’Leary to return to his Irish roots for new TV show

Dermot O’Leary is set to return to his Irish roots for a new ITV show, Taste of Ireland.

The presenter will front a new travel and food series based in Ireland, in which he will discover the best kept food secrets along the way.

The five-part series, which is supported by Tourism Ireland, will film in Kinsale, Cork City, Wexford, Dublin and Belfast.

The series will follow Dermot as he tours his way around the country, meeting with local food producers, chefs and restaurateurs.

The 50-year-old is set to take his passion for food on the road while exploring what Ireland has to offer.

The presenter admitted he “can’t wait” to embark on the trip through out the filming of the show.

“The food scene in Ireland is so exciting and to meet the people and try the produce will be a real treat,” he admitted.

He continued: “It’s exciting to see modern Ireland through second generation eyes — and to show that Ireland’s food is more than cabbage and stews… although all their cabbage and stews are also great!”

The chief executive of Tourism Ireland, Alice Mansergh said: “Tourism Ireland was delighted to support the production of this new five-part series, Dermot’s Taste of Ireland.

“With millions of people across Britain set to tune into the series later this year on ITV1 and on the streaming service ITVX, it’s a great way to shine a spotlight on the island of Ireland — showcasing our delicious local produce, wonderful culinary offering and beautiful landscapes.

“Publicity and broadcasts like this are a key element of Tourism Ireland’s programme of promotional activity, to encourage travellers in Britain, and elsewhere around the world, to put the island of Ireland on their holiday wish-list.”

Leanne Clarke, assistant commissioner from ITV Entertainment & Daytime ITV also said: “We are thrilled to be commissioning this brand-new series, Dermot’s Taste of Ireland, with one of our much-loved talents here at ITV.”

“We can’t wait to learn more about the history and culture that Ireland has to offer.”

Creative director for Rock Oyster Media, Charlotte Davis, said: “We’re delighted to be working with Dermot as he explores his passion for Ireland and food in this fantastic new series for ITV.”

“Dermot O’Leary’s Taste of Ireland will showcase all the very best of Irish produce, people and landscapes… as well as Dermot’s not inconsiderable cooking abilities! It promises to be a real treat.”

Dermot’s Taste of Ireland will air on ITV1 and on the streaming service ITVX later this year.
