Miriam O'Callaghan admits: 'People tuned in to see if I'd wear a choker again'

Making headlines recently over her fashion choices, Miriam O’Callaghan caused an onslaught of comments online over a choker she wore on RTE1.

And while people were more focused on her necklace rather than the current affairs programme, Miriam has admitted the fashion accessory brought over new viewers.

“We got a very big audience the next night and we were joking saying maybe people were tuning in to see if I’d wear it again,” she said.

However, the TV star added that her Prime Time colleague David McCullagh could present the show “wearing 25 yellow bikini’s and not that many people would remark, and then, obviously, if you’re a woman people remark all the time.”

The mum-of-eight revealed it doesn’t bother her that her male colleagues get off scott free from the public fashion police.

“I don’t really mind at this stage. I realise the nature of the beast,” she said.

Speaking to The Herald, Miriam admitted she doesn’t get bogged down by the scrutiny and hinted that having more style choices is better then her male colleagues who just wear suits.

“There was that famous story about the male presenter who did the experiment when he wore the same suit every day for a year and no noticed.

“It’s boring for men – they have to wear suits all the time,” she added.
