Isla Fisher has landed a role in Bridget Jones 4 following her split from Sacha Baron Cohen.
In early April, the Hollywood couple announced they would be divorcing after 13 years of marriage.
The Borat comedian and the Wedding Crashers actress have kept their relationship out of the spotlight for the majority of their relationship.
However, it was revealed that the couple who first met in 2001, had been separated since 2023.
Throwing herself into work, the actress is due to start filming the romantic comedy this week.
Insiders said Isla will play a friend of Bridget’s: “Isla’s real life is inspiring her new role in the Bridget Jones film.
“She plays a single mother who befriended Bridget at the school gates.”
“Isla loves Bridget Jones and is thrilled that she landed the part.”
“Her own experience will help her in the role and it’s great she’s landed such a big part after a really tough time.”
“Isla will start filming this week with Renee and other cast members.”
Renee has reprised her role as the loveable and cringeworthy Bridget for the fourth film in the series, which has been created from Helen Fielding’s books.
As fans of the books will know, Mad About the Boy is set four years after the previous instalment – and sees Bridget a widow with two small children, after her husband Mark Darcy is killed by a landmine in Sudan.
Sadly, this means the film won’t feature Bridget’s beloved husband Mark, played by Colin Firth, but he may appear in some flashback scenes.
Renée Zellweger will return as the lead character Bridget in the film, while Leo Woodall is set to play her much younger love interest, as she dabbles in the world of online dating.
The British heartthrob, best known for his roles in Netflix’s One Day and HBO’s The White Lotus, is set to play a 30-year-old man who Bridget starts sleeping with following her bereavement.
A source told The Sun: “Bridget is going to be a real cougar in the new film and she’ll be seen starting a relationship with a much younger character played by Leo.
“He was thrilled about landing the part and will have a major role as her love interest in Mad About The Boy.
“Bridget is a single mum trying to navigate a new world of social media and dating apps after Mark’s death, so she’s definitely going to end up in a pickle.”
