Louise McSharry: 'I was really sad when my chemotherapy came to an end'

Louise McSharry has revealed she was devastated when her chemotherapy came to an end.

The 2fm presenter revealed last August that she was diagnosed with Lymphoma – but has since been cleared of the illness.

However, the radio star was shocked when she was sad at the end of her chemo treatment.

“When I had my last chemotherapy treatment, I didn’t have any of the feelings I thought I would feel. I actually felt really sad,” she revealed.

Shocked: Louise couldn’t believe how sad she was when her chemo ended

“I was dreading it, I really was. The staff of St Vincent’s ward where I was treated where incredible.”

“They were so kind to me from day one and it was really hard to say goodbye to them. They are fun, there’s no BS, they speak to you in a very direct way, but in a kind of way.”

“They don’t make you feel like you’re going in for this massive thing,” she added.

Louise also admitted she loved spending time in the hospital because it was the one place she felt normal.

Friends: Louise became close with the nurses in hospital

“You feel normal when you’re in there. Everybody has cancer, the nurses are not impressed by you because everyone else has cancer. You’re not different to anyone else.”

Meanwhile, the radio host also revealed she received support from friends who were diagnosed with cancer after her.

“A couple of my friends have been diagnosed with cancer since I was which has been incredible for us,” she told Ryan Tubridy on 2fm.

“The one thing that I’ve said to them is that things quickly normalise. You get into a rhythm of it, you go in, you get to know the nurses, you get to know the people having chemo with you as well. You plan around your treatment.”
