Introducing the new bad boy of the galaxy – Alden Ehrenreich.

At Star Wars Celebration Europe, Disney confirmed that the young actor will play Han Solo in the upcoming spin-off film, which will explore the origin story of the legendary swashbuckling space smuggler.

Alden spoke at a panel at the convention. “I read the sides and I loved them. I auditioned for 6 months. The coolest part was I went on the Falcon…it’s pretty unbelievable.”

Directors Chris Miller and Phil Lord revealed that Alden was the first person to audition – and he beat out 3,000 other actors that tried for the coveted role.

Other actors reportedly considered for the part include Irish actor Jack Reynor, Logan Lerman from Fury, Brooklyn’s Emory Cohen, and Blake Jenner from Everybody Wants Some.

Alden shot to fame after starring in the Coen Brothers’s film Hail Caesar. He’s also known for his role in Blue Jasmine.

The 26-year-old officially revealed the news for the first time at the panel, but he said he had previously told the secret to one other person: his mother. “She’s pretty thrilled,” he said.
