Celebrity restaurateur opens up on new RTE show: ‘It was a huge eye opener’

He’s the toast of the town in Dublin celebrity circles – and now restaurateur Edward Smith is about to cut back on his showbiz lifestyle for a new RTE show.

My Money and Me will follow the entrepreneur and TV presenter and his boyfriend Muiris O’Connell as they attempt to cut back from their lavish ways of splashing cash on food, wine and travel.

Speaking at his restaurant Bach 16, on Bachelor’s Walk in Dublin, Ed admitted he is worried he will be “cringy” on TV tonight when the show airs.

“I had so much fun filming the show. I was definitely out of my comfort zone being a participant and not the presenter,” Ed told Goss.ie.

“It’s nerve wrecking not having any editorial control which means I’ll be watching it for the first time tonight with the rest of the nation- I’ve got a feeling it’s going to be cringy,” he admitted.

“I’m actually worried about coming across as a crazy cat lady.

“Anybody who knows me , sees me checking-in to glamorous places, or tweeting about what amazing products I was sent from brands and now they are going to see me at home with my boyfriend, cats and cycling into town with a go-pro up my nose.”

While Ed will be introduced to the public tonight, it’s not his first time on TV, previously starring in TV3’s  Total Xposure – a series looking for the next Xpose presenter.

Since starring in the show Ed went on to create Suburbia Magazine and Suburbia Weddings, now moving to the online world.

Stars such as Alan Hughes and Twink often frequent his booming restaurant.

“People I work with in media circles have been great,” Ed admitted.

“A lot of well known socialites and celebs have really showed genuine support for Bach 16- some come quite regularly which is great, but I’m giving no names- the industry is not as fake as you might think,” he laughed.

After tonight’s episode Ed is looking at getting back into TV presenting, already flying back and forth to London for meetings.

“I’m in talks with a couple of production companies so we’ll see,” he revealed.

And I’ve been taking a lot of wine exams and building my credibility as a wine guy to create a natural niche for myself with a something I’m passionate about.

“I’m presenting a wine show for a Web series out later this year. It really fits in with my work in media and the restaurant,” he added.

My Money And Me is on RTE One tonight at 8.30pm
