Amy Schumer opens up about abusive relationship

Amy Schumer has opened up about what happened during one of her previous relationships.

The comedian was in an abusive relationship with a man called Dan when she was in her twenties.

“I got hurt by accident a lot that year,” the 35-year-old said.

The actress admitted in her memoir, The Girl With The Lower Back Tattoo, that during one violent outburst – her boyfriend tried to smash a mug over her head.

“I was screaming for him to stop, when he grabbed a butcher knife from a drawer,” she wrote.

“And that’s when I was sure he was going to kill me. It may sound cliché, but I saw my life flash before my eyes.

“I thought he was the love of my life for a long time but I allowed him to hurt me in ways that I still don’t understand.”

The New Yorker also opened up about when the couple would go for drinks and he would then shove her causing her to fall and hurt herself.

“He’d get jealous about something I did and would squeeze my arm too hard and I’d get a horrible bruise but of course it was an accident, and he always felt terrible afterward,” she continued in her book.

“Dan and I would go to happy hours and get drunk, and then he’d get mad and shove me little. Sometimes from the shove, I’d trip over something and fall, and get hurt.”

The Trainwreck star admitted that she did leave Dan in the end , and encouraged other women to leave behind abusive partners.

“I’m a strong-ass woman, not someone most people picture when they think ‘abused woman’. It can happen to anyone.

“You’re not alone if it’s happening to you, and you’re not exempt if it hasn’t happened to you,” she added.
