Sam Thompson has spoken out on Strictly Come Dancing curse, ahead of his girlfriend Zara McDermott’s stint on the show.
The supposed “curse” refers to celebs taking part in the show who are already in relationships, who end up finding romance with fellow participants.
Over the course of 20 series, nearly a dozen couples have split after joining the BBC show, but Sam insists he and Zara will not – despite her cheating on him in the past.
The couple dramatically split in August 2020, after Sam found out Zara hooked up with someone else during the early stages of their relationship.
At the time, it was reported that Zara cheated with someone “in the music industry”, around the same time she took part in the celebrity version of The X Factor in 2019.
The Made In Chelsea stars later rekindled their romance, and have gone from strength to strength since.
Speaking about Zara cheating on him in past, Sam said on his Staying Relevant podcast with Pete Wicks: “She was 22… so f**king young. You know when you look at them and you go, ‘She ain’t going to do that again?’ I could see in her face.”
“You can just tell when someone has a beautiful heart and a beautiful soul and just f**ked up.”
Sam admitted that he too has been unfaithful to girlfriends in the past, adding: “You’d be some w**ker to have done it yourself and can’t forgive.”
In a statement after the cheating scandal was revealed, Zara wrote on social media: “A huge mistake I made a year ago has recently come to light and I want to face this head on.”
“I don’t condone being unfaithful and I made a huge mistake at a time in my life where I was hugely selfish and immature. I believe I have learnt so much from my mistake.”
“I want to apologise to my Sam for everything I have put him through, for the pain, the embarrassment, the anger and the hurt. All I want to do is make this right and I think the least he deserves is me being honest with myself and all of you. I love you Sam. Forever x.”
