Florence Welch reveals she underwent emergency surgery after cancelling gigs: ‘It saved my life’

Florence Welch has revealed she underwent life-saving surgery, after cancelling two of her gigs.

In a post shared to Instagram on Sunday night ahead of her 37th birthday, the Florence and the Machine frontwoman admitted she is not yet “strong enough” to explain exactly what happened just yet.

The singer wrote: “I’m so sorry that I had to cancel the last couple of shows. My feet are fine, I had to have emergency surgery for reasons I don’t really feel strong enough to go into yet, but it saved my life.”

“And I will be back to close out the Dance Fever tour in Lisbon and Malaga. (Maybe not jumping so much but you can do that for me),” she added.

The songstress previously explained in a post shared to her band’s Instagram Stories that she would be unable to perform at the Zurich Open Air Festival on August 25 and the Rock en Seine Festival on August 26.

In November last year, the popular group postponed dates on their UK Dance Fever tour after Florence discovered she was performing on a broken foot.

She explained at the time: “I’m so sorry to say that after an X-ray it seems I was dancing on a broken foot last night.

“It is not in my nature to postpone a show, and certainly not a UK tour, but I’m in pain and, as dancers know, dancing on an injury is not a good idea. And have been told not to perform to avoid further damage.”
