Father Ted could be set to live on – as a musical.
Creator Graham Linehan has revealed he wants to bring back the show, which could have a dance number “with spinning cardinals”.
He added: “I would never bring back the TV show, because of the risk you poison people’s memories of the original.

“But if you were to come up with a completely new format, I think it would be worth doing. I have this vision of a dance number, with spinning cardinals.”
But Graham would insist on referencing child abuse scandals within the Catholic Church to update the show.

He told the Radio Times: “The jokes would have to have a little bit more edge, because you just can’t ignore this stuff.”
Father Ted came to an end in 1998 after 25 episodes when Dermot Morgan – who played the lead character – died suddenly from a heart attack.
