Comedian David McSavage has told how he would be drunk by 2pm after returning to alcohol last year.
The Savage Eye star had been sober for a decade but decided to return to the drink for eight months.
But the 48-year-old became an alcoholic – which would lead to him buying bottles of vodka from Lidl.
He said: “Oh mamma mia, when I was back on the drink, those first few weeks — amazing, just awesome. Vodka: all pain, gone.

“That sense of love and wellbeing for yourself, towards other people, just superb.
“But it was great for a while and then by the end it was going up to Lidl, buying a bottle of vodka, just walking around drunk at 2pm, which was great as well, fantastic fun, but how long can your body sustain it? Your body’s just gonna go, ‘Mate, no.'”
Now McSavage is working on a new TV series – Poor Me and the Bastards – but he’ll pitch it to the BBC and the US, not RTE.
He told the Sunday Times: “I want John Carney to direct it because I want to create something that’s quite obviously brilliant. That’s the desire. And the kind of thing I’d want to do, it’s too good for RTE. F*** them.”
He added that RTE is “a place where creative people go to die”.
