Damo and Ivor is rumoured to be facing the axe – as it’s too expensive to make any more episodes.
The RTE2 series – which was created by Andy Quirke – cost a massive €1million to create its current six part series.
However unlike other shows, RTE and producers Paramount Films are unlikely to make any money back on it because it is so niche to Ireland.
Sources have now revealed it is unlikely more episodes will now be made, especially without public funding it got in season one.
Celebrating for now: Damo and Ivor costs too much for RTE | ANDRES POVEDA
An RTE insider said: “Because it’s so localised and the slang is so specialised it’s pretty much a niche market for an Irish audience.
“It has been pitched to the usual English speaking countries but none of the TV stations there have shown any interest for obvious reasons.”
Damo and Ivor has also seen its ratings slightly decrease from a high of 215,000 in season one, to around 150,000, according to the Sunday World.
During its first season, producers recieved €350,000 worth of public funding from the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland – but none for the second season.
