The Idea of You star Nicholas Galitzine addresses speculation about his sexuality

The Idea of You star Nicholas Galitzine has addressed ongoing speculation about his sexuality.

Before he starred opposite Anne Hathaway in the hit rom-com, the actor was best known for his queer roles in the films Red, White & Royal Blue and the miniseries Mary & George.

In a new interview with British GQ, he said: “I identify as a straight man, but I have been a part of some incredible queer stories.”

Nicholas admitted that his sexuality has made him hesitate when taking queer roles.

“I felt a sense of uncertainty sometimes about whether I’m taking up someone’s space, and perhaps guilt,” he explained.

“At the same time, I see those characters as not solely their sexuality.”

The British actor also called on fans to stop comparing him to his characters, saying: “I am Nick, and I’m not my role.”

Previously, the actor addressed why he wanted to take on queer roles after starring in the film Red, White and Royal Blue.

He said one of the reasons he signed on was his belief that more LGBTQ+ love stories need to be told.

Nicholas told Huffington Post UK: “I have so many friends within the community and I know so many of them didn’t feel like they had these stories growing up.”

“My gay friends were like, ‘Wow, to have something cheesy and broad and wholesome is, like, really, really important and I think the resonance of that means a lot to me,” he added.

The actor’s newest role is in Anne Hathaway’s steamy new rom-com The Idea Of You, which premiered on Prime Video on May 2nd.

The film follows Anne’s art dealer character Solène, a 40-year-old single mom who begins an unexpected romance with 24-year-old Hayes Campbell, played by Nicholas.

Hayes just so happens to be the lead singer of August Moon, the hottest boy band on the planet.

When Solène must step in to chaperone her teenage daughter’s trip to the Coachella Music Festival after her ex bails at the last minute, she has a chance encounter with Hayes and there is an instant, undeniable spark.

As they begin a whirlwind romance, it isn’t long before Hayes’ superstar status poses unavoidable challenges to their relationship, and Solène soon discovers that life in the glare of his spotlight might be more than she bargained for.
