WATCH: U2 frontman Bono reveals plans for new album and ‘very special shows’ in 2017

U2 frontman Bono has revealed that the band are set to release their new album, Songs of Experience, in 2017.

In a special Christmas message, the band also teased that there are some “very, very special shows coming” in the New Year.

“To honor 30 years of Joshua Tree, we have some very, very special shows coming,” Bono said in the 37-second clip.

As The Edge plays “Little Drummer Boy” on electric guitar, Bono announced the good news, while drummer Larry Mullen Jr. and bassist Adam Clayton decorate their Christmas tree in the background.

The Joshua Tree, which was released in March 1987, sold more than 25 million copies worldwide.

Since the band’s Christmas revelation, sources have told Billboard that U2 will embark on a US stadium tour in late Spring.

Songs of Experience will be U2’s latest album, after they released Songs of Innocence in 2014, which they gave away for free via iTunes.
