RTÉ viewers react to shock exit on Ultimate Hell Week

RTÉ’s Ultimate Hell Week returned to our screens on Wednesday night.

The popular show follows a host of famous faces as they take part in a gruelling special forces selection course designed by former members of Ireland’s elite Special Forces unit, the Army Ranger Wing (ARW).

This year’s line-up includes social media star Tadhg Fleming, former Miss Ireland Pamela Uba, actor Johnny Ward, TV presenter Blathnaid Treacy, Olympian David Gillick, and Mrs. Brown’s Boys star Fiona O’Carroll.

Virgin Media presenter Paul Ryder became the first celebrity to leave the show, after a tough final challenge.

Taking to Twitter to address his emotional exit from the show, the pro dancer wrote in a statement: “I went home first. Should I have continued on? Probably, yes! Am I proud? Too right.”

“I took on a massive challenge in life and in my short period in hell I learned something about myself, I made friends for life and am stronger now knowing I was one of 118 recruits in 5 seasons to be able to do something wildly difficult but ultimately unbelievable.”

After thanking the Hell Week team, Paul added: “The 19 other recruits who are still yet to face some horrid situations are inimitable humans and I can’t wait to watch them on this journey and remember… Don’t f**k it up.”

Reacting to Paul’s exit, one viewer tweeted: “There are moments in life where you look at your friends and think ‘wow’!! I could not be more proud of my fabulous friend @ItsPaulRyder #UltimateHellWeek @RTEOne looked like the title states #hell! Stepping outside of your comfort zone can be one of life’s great challenges.”

Another wrote: “I’m extremely proud of @ItsPaulRyder I love his attitude Paul is amazing at everything he sets his mind to #UltimateHellWeek #HellWeek.”

A third penned: “@ItsPaulRyder absolutely fantastic effort Paul. Well done. #UltimateHellWeek.”

The show continues next Wednesday on RTÉ One at 9.35pm.
