Ryan Tubridy made a trip to Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin to raise awareness for the CMRF Crumlin ‘Toughest Journey’ campaign, which aims to provide vital supports for sick children and their families.
1 in 100 children in Ireland are born with a structural heart defect, and 1 in 19 people in Ireland carry the Cystic Fibrosis gene.
With so many children battling with childhood illness and disease day in day out, hundreds of Irish children will spend Christmas in hospital.
Upon his visit, CMRF Crumlin ambassador Ryan Tubridy said, “For lots of children, they get a laugh out of meeting the ‘Toy Man’ when they are staying in any hospital, especially at Christmas time.”
“It’s important we remember that while most families are enjoying Christmas Day surrounded by loved ones at home, not everyone is so lucky. Some children will be spending the day here, at Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin having treatment.
“CMRF are asking people to think about these kids over the next few days and where possible, help make their experience a little bit easier by donating much needed funds to the foundation.”
Lisa-Nicole Dunne, CEO of the CMRF Crumlin, said, “It’s great to have Ryan on board to highlight the urgency of our ‘Toughest Journey’ Christmas appeal.”
“Christmas is a time for sitting by the fire with family and opening crackers, but some of Ireland’s sickest children will be spending Christmas in hospital. CMRF needs urgent funding to help support children and their families when they are facing really tough times.”
CMRF Crumlin provides funding for Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital Crumlin, who provide critical care for more than 120,000 sick children each year, and is also the primary funder of the NCRC (National Children’s Research Centre), which invests in vital research into childhood illness and disease, into new treatments and new insights that can change outcomes and care for children.
“We believe today’s research is tomorrow’s cure,” said Lisa-Nicole Dunne. “Urgent donations are needed for us to support Our Lady’s and the NCRC with the extraordinary work they do, day in day out, for some of Ireland’s sickest children.”
