Marty Whelan has revealed he can’t wait to return to Winning Streak at the weekend – so he can pay off his mortgage.
The RTE star will return to host the long running gameshow on Saturday after it was moved to the summer to make way for Nicky Byrne’s The Million Euro Challenge.
“I can’t tell you the delight I feel, it’s called paying a mortgage!” he said.

“I’m so happy to be doing it and I’m sure I’ll still get out in the garden, there’s always a way around these things,” he told TV Now.
The TV star admitted that he reckons The Million Euro Challenge struggled in the ratings because it was so different to Winning Streak.
“It didn’t have many shots of a live audience and it didn’t have a wheel, so it was chalk and cheese.”

“If the show is completely different people will compare the two shows,” he told the RTE Guide.
While Marty and co-host Sinead Kennedy get on like a house on fire – they’re no Ant and Dec.
“We’re not like Ant and Dec who grew up together on TV from Byker Grove onwards,” he said.

“We didn’t have that but I think we have that young at heart thing going on.”
Meanwhile, Marty slammed comments made by RTE veteran Mike Murphy’s claim that anyone can host a gameshow.
“I think the idea that anybody can present a game show is nonsense,” he revealed.
